Water Resistance: Just Like Real Rowing
For almost 30 years WATERROWER has been combining stylish design, handcrafted workmanship, and ethically sourced material to create the worlds finest rowing simulator.
The WaterRower’s unique WaterFlywheel design blends the tranquility of moving water and the rhythm of motion into the world’s finest exercise.
Proudly manufactured in the USA since 1988, the signature wood models are made exclusively with wood sourced from sustainably-managed Appalachian forests of the Eastern United States.
WATERROWER believes commitment to quality and the environment is essential to their ethical vision.
The WaterRower M1 LoRise is a full commercial model with a lower level entry point (300mm/12″) than the M1 HiRise (500mm/20″).
The frame is constructed from a fabricated tubular aluminum.
The M1 LoRise is outfitted with the Series 4 (IV) – S4 – Performance Monitor
The S4 Monitor has been designed with user friendliness in mind.
It has been designed for easy QuickStart of most functions, simply press the on button and away you row.
Delve a little deeper and there are many more advanced functions for the novice through the elite user.
The S4 Monitor displays intensity in m/s (meters per second), mph (mile per hour), /500m (time per 500 meters), /2km (time per 2 kilometers), watts and Kcalories per hour. It Displays Strokerate, Heartrate (with optional heartrate attachment), Distance in units of meters, kilometers, miles and total strokes and duration.
TOTAL Window displays Total Time, Total Distance (in meters), and Total Calories burnt.
CURRENT Window displays current stroke rate, current speed in mph (miles per hour) and /500m (split time per 500 meters).
RACE/PACE Window allows setting of time or distance race pieces as well as a quick restart of the race.
There is no heart rate function, no PC interface and no advanced functions.
Why Water?
The WaterRower’s unique WaterFlywheel design uses a specially formed paddle to cup the moving water, reduce slippage and produce an unrivaled simulation of the benefits of rowing.
Self Regulating Resistance – like rowing, the WaterFlywheel resistance varies proportional to the users intensity. The relationship between resistance and speed responds according “the rule of cubes”. The rule of cubes dictates that a doubling of speed requires an eight fold increase in power. The outcome is that the resistance when rowing is infinite and infinitely variable. Water is 800 times denser than air, and there is therefore no need for extraneous adjustments.
Self Paced – like rowing, the WaterFlywheel does not apply resistance to you, you apply work to it; you are the engine. By the “rule of cubes”, the amount of work you apply dictates the speed at which you row. From a gentle paddle to a “give it your all” workout, you are in control. This allows Anyone to row regardless of age, sex, size of level of fitness.
Even Stroke – like rowing, the WaterFlywheel uses a relatively slow-moving heavy mass to generate a smooth uniform load throughout the stroke. Air resistance machines, by comparison, tend to be jerky, jarring, and uneven, fading as the initial resistance is overcome.
Fluid Connection – like rowing, the WaterFlywheel creates a fluid connection between rower and water using a simple immersed paddle. There is no solid mechanical connection, instead the contact between the paddle face and the water acts to dampen out any detrimental mechanical feel. This provides some “give” which is essential for accommodating bad or developing technique, lessening the risk of injury.
